musician ORI.MP3: the bimbo of our dreams
35mm by Matías Alvial
ORIWHO? as a Queens-raised producer, performer, and longtime FLAMER, she blends slutty, hypercharged club energy with razor-sharp satire. she feeds the gays with an ongoing bimbo-core fever dream and cocktail of slut pop, indie sleaze, and high-octane electronica. ORI.MP3 is for the queer party rats who crave something wilder, smarter, and sexier. her shows are outrageous with goops and gags at every turn from surprise guests and smashing bottles to remixing silly goofy soundbites in real time. no 2 shows are ever the same, and that unpredictability is what keeps the ORI-stans coming back.

Q+A W/ MUSIC ARTIST + PRODUCER ORI.MP3
★ what does being a flamer mean to u?
Ori: it means i’m part of a beautiful, creative, and queer community where i feel unapologetically free to be my authentic self bitch!!!!! I’M SO LUCKY *crying*
★ dream joink rotation:
Ori: my little brother (rest in power, king) and maybe a bunch of people who have the same name. (once i got added to a group chat full of people named Ori …) WAIT ACTUALLY: Mac Miller !!! Jennifer Lawrence and Jennifer Coolidge too lol.

★ what made u want to get into music?
Ori: i have always been into music. this is woo woo, but if u look up my birth chart in depth, the word “music” is used 7+ times in describing my self-expression and spiritual calling (LOL). i was actually kind of mute as a child, i was never super confident in expressing myself verbally. but music is a way for me to step into my power, my theatrical side, my emotion, it has always been beyond therapeutic to me whether i am listening, producing/writing, or performing. i’m really affected, it gives me life.
i feel like i’ve lived multiple lives, and they are all pointing now to this ultimately purposeful thing i am currently so focused on cultivating. community, love, entertainment, and shaking ASSSSS.

★ who are ur dream collabs?
Ori: collaboration is my favorite way to create art. when u find a person who matches ur energy, ur freak, ur enthusiasm… it's the most satisfying feeling in the world. multiple brains are always better than one and i feed on and bounce off of other brains!!! i love workshopping and trying new things and for me it’s kind of crucial to have another person there to hold me accountable and validate the direction i move in.
it would be an HONOR to work with literally any of the artists/musicians i listen to AS LONG AS THEY FUCK W/ME. i want to work with people who feel as excited as i am, and respect what i’m trying to do. as long as there is a mutual vibe, there SHALL be MAGIC. like how embarrassing would it be to work with someone u idolize just to find out they’re incompatible with u and not fun to work with…\noooo gracias.

★ when did u start music + how did it start?
Ori: i BEEN making music but only started releasing music in 2021. right before Covid i was walking around my college campus feening for a snack when i bumped into some people tabling in front of the cafeteria. they said i could have a bag of chips if i signed up for the “Quadio” email list. Quadio was described as the “Spotify for College Kids” at the time. i didn’t think anything of it, then school was shut down right after. i got an email about a weekly songwriting club and had nothing better to do during lockdown. every week we were given a new prompt and had to create a song and present it to the group. it was during this time that i received so much validation from the members of this club that i felt convinced i should share my music with more people.
i wanted to be an actor for years and went to performing arts schools and conservatories with the ultimate goal of being a cast member of SNL.
“this pivoted into me being able to create an entire world of characters for myself to portray via music instead, i get to be theatrical, outrageous, and insane, while retaining autonomy + creative control through my shows.”
a personal traumatic experience also sort of lit a fire under my ass. life is short and I’m ready to be THAT BITCH.
i feel like i’ve been waiting my whole fucking life to be discovered by someone. but when i realized that shit rarely happens, i knew i had to create it myself. it took a minute but i am finally carving my own path and i have incredible people by my side helping me bring my visions to life.

★ what's ur favorite song you’ve ever created?
Ori: every time i make a new one it changes! my ADHD craves newness. but also don’t make me choose between my babies, that’s mean!
★ what’s ur favorite song to perform?
Ori: right now it’s probably “ORIwho?” because of the way the audience reacts. the energy of that song goes so crazy live and everyone loses themselves in it. i think it’s the most deep and relatable song; it feels so relevant and heartbreaking and beautiful. (lyrics are “ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah ah”) [editor’s note: *me headbanging + singing the ahs to my laptop*]
i always feel like the best dance tracks are the ones that are low key: extremely emotional and a little sad. this is it.

★ how do u want people to feel when they listen to ur music?
Ori: i want people to feel like they’re entering a cunty soundscape void where time stops and all problems disappear.

★ so what’s new diva?
Ori: oh my god do u have a FEW HOURS??? lol the passion will pour out of my little ori.mp3 orifices.mp3 … my music videos for the songs: “Horse Stick” and “Princ3ss Pe3ch” have totally taken over my life this year in the best way possible. i have never been more proud of the work i produced with the most talented people i have ever worked with!
these two songs/videos had a culminating double release party recently where we premiered both to a packed live audience in Brooklyn. definitely the highlight of my life so far. imagine a sexy cyber-punk, meta, moto-mami, mechanical bull fantasy meets kawaii cam-girl destruction meets horse-girl god… i can’t even!!!. u need to go and see both to understand what i’m talking about.
”Horse Stick” music video out on 5/20 divassss!

★ what’s ur favorite onstage gimmick / bit that u do?
Ori: thanks for noticing all of my antics! i think that’s what makes an ori.mp3 show. TBH they're all fun and give me anxiety because u can never quite predict how anything will play out live. the bit I do where I break a VFX glass bottle over my head is always exciting for audience’s reaction—but I do often cut myself accidentally (oops). the bit during the dance break in my song “beautybent” is also wild because i love the audience’s reaction to me jumping on my bassist / being thrown in the air, then doing a little backflip and getting back to the mic in time to finish the song…
